Repurposed Wheels

At this home, two old, black wagon wheels are built into the carport wall.

Stay Humble

Opossum Capitol of the World

I highly recommend a visit to scenic downtown Brasstown, NC.  There you will find Clay's Corner, Oppossum Capitol of the World.  On Friday nights there is live music.  On New Year's Eve there is a ceremonial dropping of the possum.  There is even Possum Network.  What more could a tourist want!

While you're in the area, check out the rest of Brasstown, NC.  It has some interesting sights and shops and a lovely creek runs right by the road.  Of course, I especially recommend that you visit John Campbell Folk School.  It's just across the bridge.

Silos Park

Isn't it wonderful that a community would make a public park out of a set of old silos!

Hoffa Sighting

It strikes me as odd that someone would be posting Hoffa stickers in public places around here (in a "Right to Work" state) these days (ie., 2011)...

A new sticker has been added to our exit ramp.

Dirt for Sale

The dirt (revealed to be Georgia's red clay)

I have been told that it is very unusual to find signs advertising dirt for sale in other parts of the country (outside the South) and that I should take a photograph for the record.

Buck Head

One of my favorite local sculptures, this grouping is called, "The Storyteller" (created by artist Frank Flemming in 1998).  It is found in Buckhead, an Atlanta neighborhood.

A man with a deer's head and hooves, holding a lamp post, tells a riveting story to an audience of wild animals in a wide circular space.

Keeping watch

In the early 1800's, this site was the location of Henry Irby's store and tavern at the intersection of two Indian trails. Mr. Irby nailed a deer head to his establishment, which later earned Irbyville the name "Buck Head."

As  you approach you get the sense that this rooster is "one tough customer." He means business!

My!  What fierce tootsies!

Lord of his domain (with his own fake windmill, too)!

Several years ago, the lot across the highway featured a sculpture of a large black bull advertising Roland's BBQ restaurant.  One can only assume that the bull left town when he heard the rooster was on his way.

Go Dawgs!

The mascot for the University of Georgia is the "Junkyard Dog." College colors are red and black.

Little House in Kennesaw

This little house in Kennesaw looks like it might have been built as a shed. Now it serves as a yard accessory, topped with a fine weathervane. Various farm implements decorate one side.
