Welcome to The Rock

A large rock (with text) rests in a parking lot by a ball field in Smyrna.

I wonder what the story is behind this memorial...

Pop Cross

The 4th of July holiday is fast approaching. A local church has raised a large cross decorated with crushed soda pop cans near the front door.

What? Crushed soda pop cans?

Closer view of cross

The cross looks quite festive with its coat of jolly, red Coke cans and shiny silver can parts.

Perhaps the cans came from a fun Vacation Bible School project. Neighbors could see that their children would be well entertained at this church.

Perhaps the church's creative Youth Group imagined that the cross would sparkle in the headlights of passing cars late in the evening, sending a bright, unearthly message.

Perhaps...

View of nearby church sign

Perhaps I should take them at their word! The church sign says that there is a contemporary service at 9:00. Perhaps this is a "contemporary" cross celebrating the theme, "One nation under God."

Perhaps they mean one "consumer" nation...

Happy holiday!

Banner on Brushy Mountain

Driving North on Highway 41, before the bulk of its slope surrounds you, you may glimpse a flash of white banner against the brick-red clay of Brushy Mountain.

On closer inspection, its message becomes clear...

"Beth... Marry me?"

View from the field below the banner

You turn and look... Somewhere, across the field, the hillside, and the 4 lane highway, is the window, or porch, or path where someone named "Beth" might be standing on this lovely summer day.

You wonder... Has she seen the banner? Was she surprised? Did she say, "Yes?"

Metal Menagerie

My sisters took me on a tour of Scott's Market, where interior designers vie with local citizens for clever and unusual treasures. It's an amazing place! Check out these items made from old signs...

Coincidence?

A "Prevent wildfires" billboard is posted right next to a burned out building. Which came first, the billboard or the burning?

A Quilted Van

Visiting Marietta?  You might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a quilted van parked near the downtown area.

Patriotic Profile

In preparation for the patriotic season (June and July), former governor, Roy Barnes, and his wife, Marie, have decorated their Marietta mansion with red, white and blue bunting... and a troop of giant balloons.
