Pop Cross

The 4th of July holiday is fast approaching. A local church has raised a large cross decorated with crushed soda pop cans near the front door.

What? Crushed soda pop cans?

Closer view of cross

The cross looks quite festive with its coat of jolly, red Coke cans and shiny silver can parts.

Perhaps the cans came from a fun Vacation Bible School project. Neighbors could see that their children would be well entertained at this church.

Perhaps the church's creative Youth Group imagined that the cross would sparkle in the headlights of passing cars late in the evening, sending a bright, unearthly message.

Perhaps...

View of nearby church sign

Perhaps I should take them at their word! The church sign says that there is a contemporary service at 9:00. Perhaps this is a "contemporary" cross celebrating the theme, "One nation under God."

Perhaps they mean one "consumer" nation...

Happy holiday!
